Abstract
Reading is often regarded as a solitary activity, one where the reader
simply consumes information from a page or screen. However, this
traditional view of reading—where readers passively absorb
information—does not fully capture the dynamic process that takes
place during effective reading. Engaging with a text goes beyond just
deciphering words; it involves interacting with the material,
questioning, reflecting, and making connections to the reader’s own
life or other ideas. In this sense, engagement is an active, intentional
process, one that transforms reading into a more profound
experience.
