Abstract

Assessment is an essential part of teaching and learning in English
Language Teaching (ELT). It goes beyond assigning scores or
determining pass and fail, and instead plays a key role in guiding
learners, informing teachers’ decisions, and supporting students’
language development over time.
Although assessment is often associated with anxiety and judgment,
this reflects a traditional and limited view of its purpose. In
contemporary ELT, assessment is increasingly seen as a continuous
and learning-oriented process rather than a one-time test. Through
assessment, teachers can understand how students learn, identify
their difficulties, and adjust instruction accordingly, while students
gain feedback that helps them recognize their strengths and track
their progress.
